- Concerning Your Actions |
| (51) |
Whether
therefore you eat or drink or whatsoever you do, do all to the glory
of God |
| 1
Cor 10 : 31 |
So
whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the
glory of God |
| Col
3 : 17 |
And
whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the
name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father
through him |
| (52) |
Live
no longer the rest of your time in the indulgence of the lusts of
the flesh, but in doing the will of God |
| 1
Pet 4 : 2 |
As a
result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil
human desires, but rather for the will of God. |

reckon
yourselves dead to sin but alive to righteousness |
| Rom
6 : 11 |
In the
same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in
Christ Jesus. |

doing
the will of God from the heart |
| Eph
6 : 6 |
Obey
them not only to win their favour when their eye is on you,
but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your
heart. |
(52)
contd. |
henceforth
live not unto yourselves, but unto him who died for you and rose
again |
| 2
Cor 5 : 15 |
And he
died for all, that those who live should no longer live for
themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. |
| (53) |
Be
zealous of good works, always abounding in the work of the Lord,
wearying not in well doing |
| Tit
2 : 14 |
who
gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to
purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do
what is good. |
| 1
Cor 15 : 58 |
Therefore,
my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always
give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you
know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain. |
| 1
Thess 4 : 1 |
Finally,
brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please
God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in
the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. |
| Heb
6 : 11 |
We want
each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in
order to make your hope sure. |
| Gal
6 : 9 |
Let us
not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will
reap a harvest if we do not give up. |
| 2
Thess 3 : 13 |
And as
for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right. |
| (54) |
Beware
of false teachers |
| Matt
7 : 15 |
[Jesus
said] "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in
sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious
wolves." |
| Phil
3 : 2 |
Watch
out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of
the flesh. |
| 1
John 4 : 1 |
Dear
friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to
see whether they are from God, because many false prophets
have gone out into the world. |
| (55) |
Beware
of covetousness; lay not up treasure upon earth; be ready to every
good work |
| Luke
12 : 15 |
Then
[Jesus] said to them, "Watch out! Be on your guard
against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in
the abundance of his possessions." |
| Matt
6 : 19 |
[Jesus
said] "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and
steal. |
| Tit
3 : 1 |
Remind
the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be
obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, |
| Heb
13 : 5 |
Keep
your lives free from the love of money and be content with
what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave
you; never will I forsake you. |
| (56) |
Give
to him that asks, and to him that is in need, visiting the
fatherless and the widow in their afflictions; and give liberally
and cheerfully, remembering that the Lord loveth a cheerful giver,
and is well pleased with such sacrifices |
| Matt
5 : 42 |
Give to
the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who
wants to borrow from you. |
| Rom
12 : 13 |
Share
with God's people who are in need. Practise hospitality. |
| 2
Cor 9 : 6-8 |
Remember
this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and
whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man
should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not
reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful
giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so
that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you
will abound in every good work. |
| Heb
13 : 16 |
And do
not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such
sacrifices God is pleased. |
| Jas
1 : 27 |
Religion
that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to
look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep
oneself from being polluted by the world. |
| (57) |
Do
not your alms before men, to be seen of them; let not your left hand
know what your right hand is doing |
| Matt
6 : 1-4 |
[Jesus
said] "Be careful not to do your `acts of righteousness'
before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no
reward from your Father in heaven.
"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with
trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the
streets, to be honoured by men. I tell you the truth, they
have received their reward in full. But when you give to the
needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is
doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father,
who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." |
| (58) |
Labour
not to be rich: having food and raiment, be content |
| 1
Tim 6 : 8 |
But if
we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. |
| John
6 : 27 |
Do not
work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to
eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God
the Father has placed his seal of approval. |
| Matt
6 : 19 |
[Jesus
said] "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and
steal." |
| (59) |
Riches
are dangerous; if they come to your hand, turn them into safeguards
and friends by using them liberally in the Lord's service, whose
stewards we are |
1
Tim 6 : 10,
17 : 19 |
For the
love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people,
eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced
themselves with many griefs.
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be
arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so
uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides
us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good,
to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to
share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as
a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take
hold of the life that is truly life. |
Luke
12 : 18-21,
16 : 9-13 |
"Then
[Jesus] said, `This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns
and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and
my goods. And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of
good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink
and be merry."' "But God said to him, `You fool!
This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who
will get what you have prepared for yourself?' "This is
how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself
but is not rich towards God."
I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves,
so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal
dwellings. "Whoever can be trusted with very little can
also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very
little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not
been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust
you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy
with someone else's property, who will give you property of
your own? "No servant can serve two masters. Either he
will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to
the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and
Money." |
| 1
Pet 4 : 10 |
Each
one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others,
faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. |
| (60) |
Walk
in the spirit; walk worthily; put off the old man of the flesh: put
on the new man renewed in knowledge after the divine image |
| Gal
5 : 15-26 |
So I
say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires
of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is
contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the
sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that
you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit,
you are not under law. The acts of the sinful nature are
obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry
and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage,
selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness,
orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those
who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But
the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,
kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to
Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its
passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep
in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited,
provoking and envying each other. |
Eph
4 : 24,
5 : 8-19 |
...and
to put on the new self, created to be like God in true
righteousness and holiness.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.
Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists
in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what
pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds
of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even
to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything
exposed by the light becomes visible, for it is light that
makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake
up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on
you." Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise
but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the
days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand
what the Lord's will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads
to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Speak to
one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and
make music in your heart to the Lord. |
| Col
3 : 9 |
Do not
lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with
its practices. |
| (61) |
Cleanse
yourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. Your bodies
are members of Christ, and God's temple; if any man defile the
temple of God, God shall destroy him |
| 2
Cor 7 : 1 |
Since
we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves
from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting
holiness out of reverence for God. |
| 1
Thess 4 : 3 |
It is
God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should
avoid sexual immorality; |
1
Cor 3 : 16-17,
6 : 15-20 |
Don't
you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's
Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will
destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that
temple.
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ
himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite
them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who
unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For
it is said, "The two will become one flesh." But he
who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are
outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his
own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the
Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?
You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore
honour God with your body. |
| (62) |
Follow
peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see the
Lord |
| Heb
12 : 14 |
Make
every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy;
without holiness no-one will see the Lord. |
Rom
12 : 18,
14 : 19 |
If it
is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with
everyone.
Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace
and to mutual edification. |
| 2
Cor 13 : 11 |
Finally,
brothers, good-bye. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal,
be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace
will be with you. |
| Eph
4 : 3 |
Make
every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond
of peace. |
| (63) |
Let
every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification,
even as I (Paul) please all men in all things, not seeking mine own
profit, but the profit of many that they might be saved |
| Rom
15 : 2 |
Each of
us should please his neighbour for his good, to build him up. |
| 1
Cor 10 : 33 |
...even
as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not
seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be
saved. |
| (64) |
Do
all things without murmuring and disputing |
| Phil
2 : 14 |
Do
everything without complaining or arguing, |
| (65) |
Speak
evil of no man; be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness to
all men |
| Tit
3 : 2 |
...to
slander no-one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show
true humility towards all men. |
| (66) |
Be
swift to hear; slow to speak; slow to wrath |
| Jas
1 : 19 |
My dear
brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to
listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, |
| (67) |
Depart
from all iniquity: let none of you suffer as an evil doer, or as a
busybody in other men's matters |
| 2
Tim 2 : 19 |
Nevertheless,
God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this
inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his,"
and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must
turn away from wickedness." |
| 1
Pet 4 : 15 |
If you
suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other
kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. |
| (68) |
If
any man suffer according to the will of God, let him commit the
keeping of his soul to Him in well-doing, not rendering evil for
evil, but rejoicing that he is a partaker of Christ's sufferings |
| 1
Pet 4 : 19 |
So
then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit
themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good. |
| 1
Thes 5 : 15 |
Make
sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to
be kind to each other and to everyone else. |
| 1
Pet 4 : 13 |
But
rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so
that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. |
| (69) |
Drive
away youthful lusts, but follow righteousness, faith, charity,
peace, with them that call on the lord out of a pure heart |
| 1
Tim 6 : 11 |
But
you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. |
| 2
Tim 2 : 22 |
Flee
the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith,
love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a
pure heart. |
| (70) |
Let
the word of Christ dwell in you richly; desire it with the ardour of
a new-born babe for its mother's milk; meditate on these things;
give yourself wholly to them |
| Col
3 : 16 |
Let the
word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish
one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and
spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. |
| 1
Pet 2 : 2 |
Like
newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you
may grow up in your salvation, |
| 1
Tim 4 : 15 |
Be
diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so
that everyone may see your progress. |
| (71) |
Pay
your debts: owe no man anything, but to love one another |
| Rom
13 : 7-8 |
Give
everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if
revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honour,
then honour. Let no debt remain outstanding, except the
continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his
fellow-man has fulfilled the law. |
| (72) |
Be
subject to rulers: obey magistrates: submit to every law and
ordinance of man, except where they come into conflict with the law
of Christ |
| Tit
3 : 1 |
Remind
the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be
obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, |
| 1
Pet 2 : 13-17 |
Submit
yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted
among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, or
to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong
and to commend those who do right. For it is God's will that
by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish
men. Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a
cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. Show proper
respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear
God, honour the king. |
| Rom
13 : 6 |
This is
also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's
servants, who give their full time to governing |
| Acts
4 : 19 |
But
Peter and John replied, "Judge for yourselves whether it
is right in God's sight to obey you rather than God. |
