- Concerning Matrimonial Relations |

At
liberty to marry whom you will, only in the Lord |
 |
 |
| 1
Cor 7 : 39 |
A woman
is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her
husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he
must belong to the Lord. |

Husbands
and wives not to separate except for adultery |
 |
 |
| Matt
19 : 3-6, 9 |
Some
Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it
lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every
reason?" "Haven't you read," he replied,
"that at the beginning the Creator `made them male and
female', and said, `For this reason a man will leave his
father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will
become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one.
Therefore what God has joined together, let man not
separate."
I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for
marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits
adultery." |
|
| 1
Cor 7 : 10 |
To the
married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must
not separate from her husband. |

which
will exclude from the Kingdom of God |
 |
 |
| 1
Cor 6 : 9 |
Do you
not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God?
Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters
nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders |

A
husband or wife becoming a believer without the other, not to leave
the other, if he or she consent to a peacable life |
 |
 |
| 1
Cor 7 : 12-15 |
To the
rest I say this (I, not the Lord): If any brother has a wife
who is not a believer and she is willing to live with him, he
must not divorce her. And if a woman has a husband who is not
a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not
divorce him. For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified
through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified
through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would
be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. But if the unbeliever
leaves, let him do so. A believing man or woman is not bound
in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace. |

Husbands
to love, honour, and cherish their wives |
 |
 |
| Eph
5 : 25 |
Husbands,
love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave
himself up for her
|
|
| Col
3 : 19 |
Husbands,
love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
|
|
| 1
Pet 3 : 7 |
Husbands,
in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives,
and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs
with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will
hinder your prayers. |

Wives
to love, submit to, and obey their husbands as the head |
 |
 |
| Eph
5 : 23-24 |
For the
husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the
church, his body, of which he is the Saviour. Now as the
church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their
husbands in everything. |
|
| Col
3 : 18 |
Wives,
submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. |
|
| 1
Pet 3 : 1 |
Wives,
in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any
of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without
words by the behaviour of their wives |
